Wolverine stack (BPC-157 + TB-500)
BPC-157 and TB-500 taken together, as one pre-mixed vial or two separate ones
The Wolverine stack pairs two injectable "healing" peptides, BPC-157 and TB-500. The only test of the pair, a 2026 rat tendon study, found the combination added no benefit over either alone; TB-500 alone did best.3 There is no controlled human study of the pair.

Ingredients
Each card shows the evidence for that peptide on its own. See also our BPC-157 vs TB-500 comparison.
Scale: 5 FDA-approved, 4 strong human, 3 limited human, 2 animal or lab only, 1 anecdotal. TB-500 is not thymosin β4 (Tβ4); human trials of full-length Tβ4 don't count toward its grade.4
What it's claimed to do
The pitch is that the two work on different parts of repair, so together they should heal injuries faster. Users mostly take it for:
- Tendon, ligament and joint injuries that are slow to heal
- Muscle strains and post-surgery recovery
- General "recovery" alongside training
FDA's BPC-157 review noted an injectable BPC-157 + TB-500 product sold online.5
Evidence: the pair vs each alone
| What | What's been tested | Best finding | Grade |
|---|---|---|---|
| BPC-157 + TB-500 | 1 rat study (n=32)3 | Improved one tissue score; no added benefit over either alone | 2/5 |
| BPC-157 + thymosin β4 (not TB-500) | 4 people in an uncontrolled knee-pain chart review6 | Self-reported relief; no control group, results not split by group | 1/5 |
| BPC-157 alone | Mostly rats; 5 small human studies5 | None with a clear benefit. In the rat tendon study, no statistically significant improvement3 | 2/5 |
| TB-500 alone | Rats and lab only; no human study of TB-5004 | The only group with a significant gain in tendon strength3 | 2/5 |
The rat study, in detail
Biçer and colleagues repaired the Achilles tendon in 32 rats and split them into four groups of eight: no treatment, BPC-157, TB-500, or both.3
- Tendon strength (load to failure): only TB-500 alone improved it significantly.
- Tissue score: the combination group had a significantly better Movin score, a measure of how healed tissue looks under the microscope.
- In their results, the authors report that the combination "did not confer additional benefits compared to either agent alone."
It is one small animal study, and it has not been repeated. Its authors are not from the Zagreb group, which by MoveWell's count produced most BPC-157 research.
Human data
The closest thing is a 2021 chart review of knee injections: 16 patients, 12 given BPC-157 alone and 4 given BPC-157 with full-length thymosin β4, not TB-500. Most reported relief by phone survey, with no control group.6 That can't tell you whether the pair works.
What users report
AnecdotalFrom Reddit threads, not research. Small sample.7, 8, 9, 10, 11
Reported benefits
- Several report less knee, shoulder, forearm or chest pain within a few weeks.
Reported problems
- One poster had low mood and weakness in the first week. In an AMA thread, a few mention anxiety, stomach burning or sleep changes. A cancer survivor asked about cancer risk.
- Contamination from unregulated labs was the top-voted concern in a news thread.
Skepticism
- Several report no effect. One who ran several courses from different vendors says it did no more than ibuprofen, and surgical incisions healed at the normal rate.
- Many urge getting an imaging diagnosis first, because some tears need surgery.
Comments are paraphrased. We leave out doses. The one study a commenter linked was a 2025 review that found consistent effects in animals and almost no human trials.12
Risks and legal status
Risks
- No human safety data for the pair. One of three FDA adverse-event reports on BPC-157 involved a BPC-157 + TB-500 "research purposes only" product; FDA said it was unclear whether BPC-157 caused the events.5
- Immune reactions from impurities and aggregation, flagged by FDA for BPC-157.5
- Cancer questions: no study has tested either peptide for cancer risk.4, 5 A potential cancer signal for TB-500 was reportedly discussed at FDA's July 2026 meeting; FDA's written review raised no cancer finding.13
- Unknown contents of research-use vials, including whether "TB-500" is the fragment or full-length thymosin β4.14, 15 FDA's own review found identity problems in the TB-500 material submitted to it, and its food complaint system holds 2 reports about blended TB-500 and BPC-157.4
- Sport: both are prohibited at all times (BPC-157 under S0, TB-500 under S2.3, growth factors).16
Legal status
| Product | HHS policy | Allowed routes |
|---|---|---|
| BPC-157 acetate, alone | Covered | Under the skin, muscle, mouth, skin17 |
| TB-500 acetate, alone | Covered | Under the skin or muscle17 |
| BPC-157 + TB-500 in one product | Excluded | One active ingredient per product1, 2 |
"Covered" means HHS said it won't take enforcement action against licensed pharmacies that compound it with a prescription under strict conditions. Neither peptide is FDA-approved or on the official compounding list; the policy is interim and state rules still apply.1, 18 503B outsourcing facilities and research-chemical sellers are excluded.19
Safer or evidence-based alternatives
- Get a diagnosis. Pain that won't settle needs an exam and, often, imaging; some tears need surgery.
- Structured exercise is the first-line treatment for common leg tendinopathies. A network meta-analysis of 68 randomized trials found no add-on convincingly better than exercise alone.20
- About the HHS policy: it covers single-ingredient compounding of BPC-157 or TB-500 under enforcement discretion, meaning HHS said it won't act against licensed pharmacies that do it with a prescription. That is not legal approval or FDA approval, and the one test of the pair found no added benefit.1, 3 See BPC-157 vs TB-500 for what each has behind it.
Where to get it
Licensed single-ingredient options are covered in the BPC-157 and TB-500 guides.
FAQ
Do BPC-157 and TB-500 work better together?
The only test, in rats, found no added benefit. TB-500 alone was the only group with a significant gain in tendon strength.
Is the Wolverine stack legal?
A single product containing both is excluded from the October 2026 HHS policy. For each peptide on its own, HHS said it won't act against licensed pharmacies that compound it with a prescription. That is enforcement discretion, not approval.
Why is it called Wolverine?
It is a marketing name, after the fast-healing comic character. No regulator uses it.
Can athletes use it?
No. Both are prohibited in and out of competition under the WADA code: BPC-157 under S0 and TB-500 under S2.3.
How long do people take it?
MoveWell gives no dosing advice. There is no human trial to base a course on.
Is TB-500 the same as thymosin beta-4?
No. FDA says they "are not the same substance." TB-500 is a synthetic 7-amino-acid fragment (Ac-LKKTETQ) of the 43-amino-acid protein, and no study has given TB-500 to people. Users still dispute what research vials contain. WADA lists it under S2.3: "Thymosin-β4 and its derivatives e.g. TB-500."
